UCCE advisors in Sonoma County are critical partners with local farmers and ranchers, providing scientific-based information on techniques to increase production and economic stability, while addressing environmental concerns.
The Position
As the UCCE’s Wildfire Vegetation Mitigation Program Manager, you will be working across County departments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Resource Conservation Districts (RCDs), and other agencies assisting in recommendations for fuel/vegetation management at common lands along with large-scale properties, range, and forest lands. This position works with other UCCE experts, Registered Professional Foresters (RPFs), RCDs, Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS, NGOs, etc.) implementing best management practices on private and public working landscapes to reduce fire fuel loading, including prescribed burning, timber management and grazing. Additionally, you will be providing leadership for scaling watershed projects across the County and collaborating with Sonoma Water on the Larger Landscape Tool.
In this position you will also:
- Develop the web-based app for the mapping tool; allowing landowners to prioritize best management practices to reduce fuels; Implement the Wildfire Fuel Mapper
- Work with landowners to development vegetation management plans
- Expedite and provide landowners assistance in utilizing various funding opportunities
- Organize and host educational workshops for landowners and managers on using vegetation management tools and practices
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- Experience identifying and working with funding incentives for wildfire mitigation through vegetation management
- Knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations around vegetation management
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with public speaking and presenting to a diverse audience
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills

The UCCE is recruiting to fill a Wildfire Vegetation Mitigation Program Manager – Time-Limited position that is currently funded through June 30, 2023. This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list. Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities stated herein. Normally, three years of experience supervising or coordinating a program including some responsibility for program coordination, planning, analysis and administration, including at least one year leading or supervising staff would provide such opportunity. Specific experience related to the assigned position may be required for designated positions and will be stated as such in recruitment materials.
