Job Summary: Researches, interviews, and negotiates with suppliers to obtain prices and specifications on materials and supplies. Expedite orders and ensure proper delivery. The position provides some routine administrative support. It requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and 2-4years of experience in the construction business. The Purchasing Agent relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks and. The position works under general supervision.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Receives and reviews requisitions requesting materials and supplies
2. Communicates with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedules
3. Purchases by testing, observing, or examining items
4. Expedites orders and requests as needed
5. Estimates values according to knowledge of market price
6. Negotiates project material and equipment pricing
7. Determine the purchase process whether as direct purchase or bid
8. Creates and issues purchase orders for the acquisition of material
9. Procures materials or other goods and/or coordinates activities involved with purchasing products and services, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies for establishment
10. Ensures delivery of goods to users
11. Maintains procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, inventories
12. Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel professionally; determines source of trouble and takes corrective action
13. Tracks material and equipment returns / back orders
14. Manages and selects Equipment Rental companies
15. Reviews and approves invoices from generated purchase orders
16. Contributes to the Post-project Audit
17. Organizes and ships return merchandise
18. Manages shop inventory
19. Other duties as assigned

Non-Essential Job Duties:
1. Works with manufacturers or persuade potential manufacturers and distributors for the manufacturing of custom-designed items according to user's specific needs and specifications
2. Keeps abreast of market trends, changes in business practices new or altered types of materials entering the market, etc.
3. Work autonomously, under general supervision
4. Provide routine administrative support
5. Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:
1. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent
2. 2-4years of experience in the field or in a related trade or business
3. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the construction trade
4. Knowledge of pipe, fittings, parts, equipment and plumbing/HVAC piping construction
5. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
6. Ability to negotiate with partners on terms and maintain positive and professional relationships
7. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required
8. Professional appearance and demeanor
9. Customer service skills and abilities in-person, on the telephone and in email correspondence
10. Advanced typing and ten-key operation
11. Knowledge of software programs: MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Preferred Job Qualifications:
1. AA or BA from accredited university
2. Training on Maxwell and VISTA software systems
3. Advanced knowledge in the plumbing and/or HVAC trades

ADA Specifications:
Position requires sitting for prolonged periods and occasional standing and walking. Manual dexterity required for computer work. There is occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Office work environment with a moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations will be made available.
